There’s a new food trend to Washington DC, Thai Rolled Ice Cream! So far there’s only one in DC, called Icy Code in DuPont circle. I was lucky enough to stumble upon it as I was looking for a cool place to wait for the DC Pride Parade to start a couple weekends ago.
This is the Matcha Honey Ice Cream. Half the fun is watchhing them make the ice cream in the first place. The ice cream roller takes the milk mixture and pours it onto a cold metal surface, mixes items into the cream, and then rolls it into beautiful and delicious ice cream rolls! Icy Code has pre-selected ice cream flavors with pre selected toppings as well.
While there’s only one in DC proper, there’s another Thai rolled ice cream shops in the DC metro area. Class 520 is in Rockville, Maryland.
Mad Mango has is mango and strawberry ice cream with a choice of 3 toppings. I had to go with pocky sticks, what self respecting pocky lover wouldn’t? Same process as Icy Code, you order first and then they make it in front of you. It’s a show and food rolled into one!
If I had to choose who was better, I wouldn’t be able to. Both Icy Code and Class 520 are great in showmanship and flavor. I hope Thai rolled ice cream is here to stay because it is delicious!
